January was a busy month for Texas! From new interns to coalition and community meetings our Texas team has a lot to share.  They also have several things to look forward to. Check out our website for more on this last month in Texas!

This January, we shared information and education with community groups about the harmful SB4 law with the theme “know your rights with the new laws in Texas”. This was shared by Mary Cordero from ACLU, TX. The organizers of the Poderosas/xs en Acción project encouraged their groups to hear about this topic that is so important for our communities. Mary Cordero began sharing this valuable information with the Texas leadership group including Poderosas/xs from RGV and Houston via Zoom. Mary Cordero then took the information to 12 community groups led by RGV community organizers from Hidalgo, Cameron, and Willacy counties. In total 13 informational meetings were held about the SB4 law.

En este mes de enero programamos en los grupos comunitarios la educación e información sobre la ley dañina SB4 con el tema: «Conoce tus derechos de las nuevas leyes en Texas», compartido por Mary Cordero de ACLU, TX. Las organizadoras del proyecto Poderosas en Acción avivaron sus grupos para que escucharan sobre este tema tan necesario para nuestras comunidades. Mary Cordero comenzó a dar esta valiosa información al grupo de liderazgo de Texas con Poderosas del RGV y Houston a través de Zoom. Después, Mary Cordero llevó la información a 12 grupos de la comunidad liderados por las organizadoras comunitarias de RGV de los condados Hidalgo, Cameron y Willacy. En total 13 reuniones fueron informadas sobre esta ley SB4

On January 12, we held a formal meeting on “The Community Informed Agenda” in La Paloma, TX (a town in the city of San Benito, TX). On their agenda, they plan to ensure that there will be a Community Center in their town that will benefit their community.

El 12 de enero empezamos formalmente una reunión sobre, «la Agenda Informada por la Comunidad» en la Paloma, TX (pueblo de la ciudad de San Benito, TX). En su agenda planean lograr que en su localidad haya un centro comunitario para beneficio de su comunidad.

On January 25, we were invited to be part of the Frontera Texas Organizing Project coalition. Our relationship with our allies has been closer than ever. The organizations that are part of this coalition are ACLU TX, ARISE, LUPE and Border Worker United. Now that we are part of this coalition, we will begin planning for the next steps such as a response to the SB4 law through a possible mobilization and phone bank.

El 25 de enero fuimos invitadas para ser parte de la coalición Frontera Texas Organizing Project. Nuestra relación con nuestros aliados ha sido más cercana que nunca. Las organizaciones que son parte de esta coalición son ACLU TX, ARISE, LUPE y Border Obrero Unido. Ahora que somos parte de dicha coalición empezamos la planeación de los próximos pasos como respuesta a una posible movilización y banco de llamadas en referencia a la ley SB4.

Our Poderosa Mizty Lopez from the city of Houston and Mayra Cabrera from RGV were selected to be part of the Texas team as Interns (TX Community Engagement Intern and TX Digital Engagement Intern), both starting on February 12.

La Poderosas Mizty de la ciudad de Houston y Mayra Cabrera de RGV fueron seleccionadas para ser parte del equipo de Texas como Pasantes (TX  Community Engagement Intern y TX Digital Engagement Intern) comenzando el 12 de febrero.
