Nuestras Historias, Nuestro Poder: A Night of Empowerment and Celebration

On May 2, 2024, the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Justice hosted “Nuestras Historias, Nuestro Poder” at The Fig House in Highland Park, Los Angeles. This event, co-hosted with #WeAllGrow Latina, marked the 30th anniversary of the Latina Institute.

The night was graced by the presence of Alejandra Campoverdi, a bestselling author and reproductive health advocate. Alejandra shared profound insights from her memoir, FIRST GEN, which chronicles her journey as a first-generation Mexican-American navigating the complexities of identity, ambition, and societal expectations. Her story resonated deeply with the audience, highlighting the power of personal narratives in driving social change. We were also joined by DJ Linda Nuves, floral arrangements by Como la Flor, and our bookseller Tia Chucha’s.

This event was part of a series of celebrations commemorating the Institute’s 30th anniversary. The kickoff event in January set the tone with special guest Author Sandra Guzmán and DJ Karen Santana, creating an atmosphere of unity and joy. This event took place at the Eaton Hotel in DC, read more about this event here. Each gathering has reinforced the importance of community, storytelling, and shared experiences in the fight for reproductive justice.

As we look ahead, the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Justice remains committed to its mission of ensuring the dignity and rights of Latinas. The “Nuestras Historias, Nuestro Poder” event was not just a celebration of past achievements but also a rallying cry for the work that lies ahead. With continued support from the community and allies, the Institute aims to amplify Latine voices and drive meaningful change.
