Poderosas raising fists in the air

We shift culture

Storytelling and truth transforms narratives and changes how people in power understand reproductive justice. We build power by shaping, shifting, and driving narratives of Poderosas and the Latina/x community. Latina Institute engages in culture shift to actively transform the historic and current misrepresentation of the Latina/x community and replace them with our stories of strength and power.  Our culture shift work is a thread that ties everything we do – community base building, a movement building approach to public policy advocacy, and communications.

Immigrant Justice is Reproductive Justice

Our communities deserve to live with health, safety, and dignity, regardless of immigration status. When immigrant families face detention, deportation, fear, or barriers to accessing health care, their ability to make decisions about their bodies, their families, and their future is also impacted. That is why immigrant justice is reproductive justice.

Opinion Research

Since 2012, the Latina Institute has invested in exploring views and experiences toward abortion and reproductive healthcare access. For us, this polling research is an important component of understanding and depicting an accurate representation of the realities that our families and communities face on a daily basis.

We know that despite certain media narratives that paint our community as conservative, the truth is the majority in our community understand and empathize with our decision making.

Birthright citizenship is the principle that every baby born in the United States is a U.S. citizen. Currently the ACLU and partners have filed the class action lawsuit Barbara v. Trump on behalf of the enormous number of individuals whose citizenship hangs in the balance because of the President's birthright citizenship executive order, and the case will now be heard in the Supreme Court. Oral Arguments will be on April 1st, 2026.
