The National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health Celebrates International Women’s Day

Washington, D.C. — In honor of International Women’s Day, the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health (NLIRH) continues its tradition and will close its offices to celebrate the economic, political and social achievements of women – particularly of immigrant women. In this spirit, NLIRH will participate today in A Day Without a Woman, a one-day demonstration of economic solidarity as we celebrate our strength and power as a movement.

Jessica González-Rojas, executive director of the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health, issued the following statement:

“On this International Women’s Day, we are proud to honor immigrant women, who are at the forefront of the fight for reproductive, economic and immigrant justice. NLIRH centers the lives of immigrant women and families because despite social, economic and political contributions, they continue to be disproportionately affected by immigration policies that violate their basic human rights to health, dignity, and justice. We refuse to stay quiet while our humanity is questioned.

“In this spirit, we are moved to act in solidarity with the Women’s March and join A Day Without a Woman. We are a powerful movement and together we are moving the fight for reproductive justice forward. We will tirelessly advance our vision of a society where access to reproductive healthcare is a reality for all people – no matter where they live, how much they make or their immigration status.”
