Statement from Andrea Medina-Alvarado, Texas Policy Advocate, and Lucy Ceballos Félix, Associate Director of Texas, National Latina for Reproductive Justice, on the final passage of HB 7

We are outraged by the passage of HB 7, which will create civil penalties for anyone who helps Texans get medication abortion care — even in states that allow this essential care. Texas is already home to some of the most restrictive bans on abortion in the country, and anti-abortion politicians have shown the extreme lengths they’ll go to punish anyone who offers care, support or information to people who need abortion care. This does nothing to protect anyone’s health or safety and will only make it harder for our communities to get the healthcare and information they need to make their own decisions about their bodies and lives.
