About Latina Institute for Reproductive Justice

Founded in 1994, the mission of the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Justice ( Latina Institute) is to build Latina/x power to fight for the fundamental human right to reproductive health, dignity, and justice. We center Latina/x voices, mobilize our communities, transform the cultural narrative, and drive policy change. Reporting to the Managing Director (MD), the Senior Director of Communications & Public Affairs serves as a key leadership team member and an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting the Latina Institute. This person will be tasked with developing and implementing a communications infrastructure and strategy.

The Senior Director of Communications & Public Affairs will have primary responsibility for establishing and implementing the infrastructure needed to enhance the visibility of Latina Institute through innovative branding and messaging strategies. The successful candidate will help build the Latina Institute’s visibility as a national thought leader on reproductive justice for Latinx communities by designing and implementing a robust communications strategy. 

Strategic Vision

  • Develop and implement a strategic communications plan that will build Latina Institute’s position as a national thought leader on reproductive justice issues affecting the community.
  • Grow Latina Institute’s visibility by designing a strategy to cultivate deeper ties with the media and other external partners.
  • Design, implement, and assess content, messaging and engagement strategies uniquely poised for the Latinx community.
  • Create innovative, multi-channel communications content to grow and mobilize grassroots activists, educate audiences, and attract support.
  • Support and partner with the ED and board members on all major communications initiatives.

Infrastructure & Team Development

  • Assess the current structure of the communications department and identify the key roles needed to execute the strategy with sufficient capacity.
  • Design and oversee processes and procedures to ensure alignment and support of the strategic plan, including messaging coordination between internal and external communications and implementing best practices to inform the communications team’s future efforts.
  • Develop a rapid-response communications strategy in alignment with reproductive justice values.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor on behalf of the communications team across the organization; communicate, and advocate for the resources needed to be successful in this capacity.
  • Develop internal processes and procedures to ensure that the communications team and other departments can collaborate more effectively.
  • Provides ongoing project management support to advance operational effectiveness and productivity across teams; design, organize and implement strategic communications initiatives and special projects in collaboration with other departments, partners and external constituents.
  • Serve as a strategy partner on the  organization’s senior executive leadership team
  • Support and adopt organization-wide initiatives related to wellness and anti-racism


  • A strategy-oriented, communications generalist with experience promoting grassroots activists and communities.​
  • A  strong understanding of reproductive justice values and framework.​
  • Demonstrated success in developing and executing a communications strategy for Latinx audiences.
  • Must be bilingual in Spanish & English.​
  • A big-picture thinker with demonstrated success in executing innovative strategies to strengthen nonprofit brand and reputation.​
  • An empathetic and community-oriented leader with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships across a wide variety of stakeholders.​
  • Proven success in building an internal communications infrastructure to support a mission.​​
  • Demonstrated success in building a robust communications team with a wide range of specialty skillsets.

We are seeking an individual of outstanding quality with a respected track record. The Latina Institute is prepared to offer a very attractive compensation package, including a competitive base salary of $130,000-$140,000 as well as:
