Bookkeeper Job Description

We amplify the grassroots power and thought leadership of Latinas/xs across the country to fuel a larger reproductive justice movement.

Position Description: We are seeking an experienced Bookkeeper to join the organization’s finance team. The Bookkeeper should have knowledge of grant management and will also create, maintain, and track transaction details, go over accounting data for accuracy, and notify senior staff of any accounting errors. The Bookkeeper, in conjunction with the Senior Accountant, will maintain and balance subsidiary and general ledgers, reconciling any incorrect entries.

The Bookkeeper will report to the Associate Director of Finance.

Location: Temporarily remote; New York, NY.

Responsibilities include:

  • Record grant expenses and allocate to appropriate project(s).
  • Track and manage temporarily restricted grants.
  • Monthly meetings with the Development team to review grant needs.
  • Prepare budget vs. actual reports for grant specific projects.
  • Oversee and track grants receivable.
  • Prepare quarterly grants receivable reconciliation.
  • Prepare monthly due from bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare monthly credit card reconciliations.
  • Prepare adjusting entries as needed.
  • Assist with Accounts Payable when needed.
  • Ensure receipt of W9 and ACH forms for new vendors.
  • Create and maintain vendor files on our accounting software and shared Excel folders.
  • Run, format, and distribute monthly finance reports to all departments.
  • Assist in preparation for annual audit.
  • Support finance staff as needed.
  • Perform ad-hoc day-to-day finance activities.

What You Will Need to Be Successful:

  • Associate degree in accounting, finance, or related field. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 2+ Years of finance experience.
  • Grant or project management experience preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks.
  • High degree of attention to detail.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Proficient MS office knowledge and skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) strongly preferred.
  • Ability of tracking budget expenses.
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Strong analytical abilities.
  • Knowledge of Sage Intacct a plus.

Salary Range: $55,000 - $60,000 based on experience. Our comprehensive package of benefits includes:
