Statement from Andrea Medina-Alvarado, Texas Policy Advocate, National Latina for Reproductive Justice, on the House passage of SB31

We are deeply concerned about the passage of SB 31. This bill is supposed to make it clear when healthcare providers can offer lifesaving abortion care to their patients, but it won’t improve access to healthcare for Texans or guarantee that they won’t be arrested or investigated for their pregnancy outcomes. We’ve seen time and again that these exceptions don’t work.

We will continue to organize and build power in Latine communities across Texas so that everyone has access to the health care they need, including abortion care, and no one is denied care because of their immigration status or what state they call home.
