Statement from Lupe M. Rodríguez, executive director of National Latina Institute for Reproductive Justice, on the Biden administration’s birth control announcement
“We applaud President Biden’s proposal that insurers cover over-the-counter birth control at no cost to patients. This is a critical step toward making birth control more affordable and accessible.
“We know that many Latinas/xs and im/migrant communities face barriers to accessing the birth control they need. Expanding access to this critical health care ensures that we can take care of ourselves and our families. When people can decide for themselves when and whether to have children, it benefits not just their families and communities, but society as a whole.
“At the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Justice, we believe that everyone should have access to the full range of sexual and reproductive health care, including birth control, regardless of their income, age, race, disability, im/migration status, or what state they call home. We’ll continue fighting for reproductive justice and building power in Latino/x communities across the country so that everyone has access to the care they need.”
