Reversal in Texas Abortion Case Will Hurt Latina Health

Jessica González-Rojas, Executive Director of the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health, released the following statement in response to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit reversal of a federal judge’s blockage of abortion restrictions in Texas:“We’re deeply disappointed that the court chose to a issue a decision at odds with Latina health, and we’ll continue to fight until all Latinas can access the fundamental human right of quality, affordable reproductive health care, no matter what state they live in.“Profound barriers to reproductive health care, including cost, lack of transportation and clinics, and immigration status mean that Latinas in Texas are already severely delayed or barred from care they need to live with health and dignity. These conditions are frankly dangerous to the health of Latinas. Restrictions like these make the problem even worse by pushing Latinas into the shadows of health care, where they are forced to seek medical services in potentially dangerous situations. There is no doubt this decision is bad for the health of Latinas in Texas.“This can not stand, and Latinas will not let it.
