Reproductive Justice Community Opposes Bill Stigmatizing Women of Color

As leaders in the reproductive justice movement working for access, dignity and justice in the delivery of health care, we strongly oppose this legislation.

If passed, this legislation will further stigmatize women of color and their reproductive decision-making with baseless suspicion about their motives when they seek to terminate a pregnancy.

As leaders in a social justice movement that engages the intersections of racism, gender, immigration, and other areas of societal bias, we recognize this legislation is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. This bill should be called what it is – yet another in a long line of attacks on women’s health, one that goes further than others by using civil and human rights language to take away the rights of the very people it purports to help.

We say, not in our name.
