NLIRH: We Will Hold Azar Accountable for Upholding HHS’ Mission

Washington, D.C. — Today, the Senate confirmed Mr. Alex Azar as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Ann Marie Benitez, senior director of government relations for the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health (NLIRH), issued the following statement:

“The mission of the Department of Health and Human Services is to enhance the health and well-being of all individuals by providing for effective health and human services. Therefore, as head of HHS, Mr. Azar must demonstrate integrity and commitment to making quality healthcare, including reproductive healthcare, affordable and accessible for ourselves and our families. Mr. Azar must also work to hold all of HHS’ staff  to those same standards. Not doing so would have far-reaching, negative consequences, especially for Latinxs and other underserved and uninsured communities. NLIRH will be watching, and we will hold Mr. Azar accountable for upholding HHS’ mission.”
