Latinas Applaud the Introduction of a Resolution Condemning Violence Against Reproductive Health Care Providers

Washington, D.C. – The National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health thanks Senators Richard Blumenthal (CT), Jeanne Shaheen (NH), Michael Bennet (CO) and Representatives Diana DeGette (CO-1) and Louise Slaughter (NY-25) for introducing critical joint resolutions to condemn violence against women’s health providers and patients. NLIRH applauds this necessary response to the tragic attack on a Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood that left three dead and nine wounded.

Latinas are Closely Watching the Supreme Court

Supreme Court hears arguments in two cases with potentially huge impacts on Latinas.

Washington, D.C. -- This week is a big one for Latinos at the Supreme Court. The nine justices will hear oral arguments in Evenwel v. Abbott, a case about voting districting, and in Fisher v. Texas, addressing the affirmative action program at the University of Texas. These cases tackle two very different legal issues, both of which could have significant reverberating impacts in our communities.

National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health Condemns the Passage of Anti-Refugee, Xenophobic Bill

WASHINGTON, D.C.  - Despite the threat of a Presidential veto and the clear opposition by advocates and major civil rights groups around the country, today, the U.S. House of Representatives approved a hateful and xenophobic bill to bar Syrian and Iraqi refugee families from resettling in the United States. H.R. 4038, the “American Security Against Foreign Enemies Act of 2015,” which would add untenable and harmful barriers to the U.S. Refugee Resettlement Program, passed the House on a 289-137 vote.​
