Author Xochitl Gonzalez, On The Importance of Storytelling:
We spoke with Dr. Mónica Russel y Rodríguez and Brenda Burgos, the current and incoming Latina Institute Board Chairs, respectively, about the impact of our stories on the Latina Institute’s past, present, and future.
Q: What stories will be essential to share over the next 30 years of the Latina Institute?
We are part of a legacy of Latines who know their worth and are working with other women of color. This will be our continuing story. What connects us across the incredible diversity of Latine is that we understand our power is in our unique histories and that we are together making meaning of being US Latines.Dr. Mónica Russel y Rodríguez, Latina Institute Board Chair (2018-2024)
In the next 30 years, alongside our RJ partners, I see the Latina Institute's work driving a paradigm shift – through community organizing, coalition building, policy advocacy, and our fierce Poderosas. The story that must be told is the one that we all came together to ensure reproductive autonomy, justice, and dignity for all.Brenda Burgos, Latina Institute Board Chair
