Washington, D.C. — Today, the Obama Administration issued a final rule regarding the Title X program that bars states from blocking access to providers, such as Planned Parenthood and health clinics that provide abortion services. The new rule will ensure that patients have access to contraception, cancer screenings, and other basic preventative care services. Jessica González-Rojas, executive director of the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health (NLIRH) issued the following statement:

“The administration’s ruling today is a welcome relief to exhausted Latinxs, people of color, LGBTQ people and  low-income communities who have one less thing to worry about: accessing basic healthcare. Defunding family planning health centers disproportionately impacts people with low incomes and communities of color, whom depend on Title X clinics as a main source of preventative and reproductive health care. All people--regardless of where they live or how much they make--deserve access to affordable, quality healthcare that includes the full range of reproductive health services. Although the Obama Administration has taken a critical step in protecting access to quality care, there is much work to be done in our fight against politicians pushing their political agendas to the detriment of our families and our communities.”
