Washington, D.C. —National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health (NLIRH) executive director Jessica González-Rojas issued the following statement calling on the United States Senate to engage in a swift and fair up-or-down vote to fill the vacancy on the United States Supreme Court. A number of cases before the Court could impact the health and dignity of millions of Latin@s, including especially Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstadt, Zubick v. Burwell and United States v. Texas:

“The National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health represents the voices of millions of Latino/as who are waiting on the Supreme Court to hear and decide on abortion access, contraception, immigration status, and other key civil rights cases that will have an impact on our families and in our communities. NLIRH urges the Senate to do its job and move the nomination of Judge Merrick Garland forward so that each branch of government can work as they are intended to do and serve the people in a timely manner. The vast majority of Latino/a voters hold supportive and compassionate views on abortion and support policies that promote safe, affordable access without political interference. The Senate should side with members of our community and not stand in the way of progress and of a fully functioning judicial branch.”
