Senior Director of Operations and Finance

Melissa Garcia serves as the Senior Director of Operations and Finance at the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health where she is responsible for operations, compliance, human resources and financial integrity as NLIRH continues to expand nationally.​

Melissa brings nearly 20 years of operational experience.  Before joining the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health, Melissa served as the Director of the Catalyst Program at Partnerships for Parks a multi-borough leadership and community empowerment program funded by New York State and private grants.   Prior to that, Melissa worked at the Women of Color Policy Network at New York University's Wagner School of Public Service, as policy advocate, researcher and program administrator. And before this, she served as the Chief of Administrative Services for New York City’s Department of Parks and Recreation managing the personnel, purchasing, and workforce development offices for the entire Borough of Manhattan.​

Melissa received a MBA from Rutgers University in 2014, a MPA from New York University in 2003, and her BA from Columbia University where she studied Urban Studies and Anthropology. ​

Melissa is passionate about financial literacy,  women’s issues, social justice, collaborative learning, and community empowerment.  ​

Melissa served as a Commissioner for the NYC Women's Issues Committee from 2009-2013.  Melissa is also a graduate of the Coro NY Immigrant Civic Leadership Program.
