About National Latina Institute for Reproductive Justice

The National Latina Institute for Reproductive Justice (the Latina Institute), previously known as National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health, amplifies the grassroots power and thought leadership of Latinas/xs across the country to fuel a larger reproductive justice movement. Our mission is to build Latina/x power to fight for the fundamental human right to reproductive health, dignity, and justice. Since our founding in 1994, the Latina Institute has created lasting change at the local, state, and national levels —from helping expand reproductive health access and affordability, including abortion, to fighting to secure im/migrant reproductive health rights.

Grounded in the belief that communities are united by their inherent individual and collective power, the Latina Institute knows that the best solutions come from people who are most impacted by the problem. Solutions must take into consideration the varying experiences of all Latinas/xs and the unique barriers facing fellow hermanas, such as black Latinas/xs, undocumented activists and/or indigenous Latinas/xs. As such, the Latina Institute fights to center the voices of all Latinas/xs to create lasting change. We operate with an equity and inclusion lens that embraces the diversity of Latina/x identities across race, gender, im/migration status, sexual orientation, cultural background, ability to vote, and more.

The Latina Institute centers Latina/x voices and the broad range of their respective experiences and identities as proud Afro, indigenous, queer, and others representing the rich diversity of the Latina/x community. Alongside these poderosas, the Latina Institute builds a base of activists across states, shapes policies to be informed by the lived realities of Latina/x communities, and shifts culture to fuel a larger movement for reproductive justice. Collectively, Latina/x communities are a powerful force with the potential to lift voices that have gone unheard and issues that have been ignored far too long.
