Cynthia Romero serves as Senior Director of Public Affairs and Communications at the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health (NLIRH), where she oversees communications strategies and manages a team of digital and media professionals to elevate the institute as the authoritative champion for health, dignity and justice for the Latinx community. A seasoned bilingual communicator and advocate, Cynthia has more than 15 years of experience promoting reproductive justice, gender equity and human rights globally, including at Catholics for Choice, The Atlantic Council, Freedom House, and the National Democratic Institute. She served as an Obama administration appointee at USAID, where she led media campaigns for humanitarian and human rights programs spanning more than $4 billion dollars annually. She was the agency’s lead speechwriter on more than a dozen high-profile Congressional hearings on major flashpoints—from the Ebola epidemic in West Africa to the crises in Syria and South Sudan. She also served as a national security fellow in the office of the late Senator Ted Kennedy. Cynthia has been a frequent contributor on CNN en EspañolFox NewsThe Washington PostThe Miami Herald and other Spanish and English-language outlets. She received her MA with distinction from Queens University Belfast, where she was a George J. Mitchell Scholar, and a BA magna cum laude from Princeton University. She is a political partner with the Truman National Security Project.
